Are LibGuides backed up in case of a system crash?

We perform nightly backups of all our databases, so in the case of a catastrophic system crash, the most data you could lose is the current day's worth of new content.

The data is backed up to network attached storage, so it doesn't reside on the same servers as the production environment. We also regularly check the integrity of our daily backups.

While we're very safety conscious with the data on our servers, we also know that the key to a good backup plan is redundancy. If your institution subscribes to the Add-on Module, your site will also have the option to create HTML backups of individual guides, as well as export a full XML version of your site. We're very confident in the integrity of data on our servers, but there are always good reasons to keep "local" back-ups of your content as well!

  1. Can we set the system to automatically back up each week or do we request it each week?

  2. Hi, Barb!
If you have the images and backups module, we can set it up so that you can retrieve an XML backup weekly. Please send email to to get this set up. Thanks!

This site is shutting down by, if not before, March 31, 2018.

LibGuides v1 servers are also shutting down at that time.

See LibGuides v2 documentation instead.
