Can I embed another website page within my LibGuide?

Sure! To do this, what you want to do is use an iframe. You'll want to create a new "Rich Text/Dynamic Content/Scripts" box type, and make sure you click on the "Plain Text Editor". The basic code for an iframe looks like this:

<iframe src="PASTE THE URL YOU WANT TO EMBED HERE" height="300" width="100%"><br /> <p>Your browser does not support iframes.</p><br /></iframe>

To work with the above code, find the URL of the site you're embedding, and paste it in. The width is defaulted to show as wide as possible (100%); you can also define a pixel width instead of a relative width. The height is an example of pixel-size rather than relative size; you can change the height to be whatever you want.

So, for example, if I wanted to embed the help site here, I'd enter this code:

<iframe src="" height="300" width="100%"><br /> <p>Your browser does not support iframes.</p><br /></iframe>

And this would be the result:

  1. Hi there,
Used this code and it works like a charm - in Chrome, but I get a blank box when I open the page in IE
    Can you help me?

  2. Hi, Dorothy!

I took a look at your guide in Internet Explorer – I have version 9, but I used the ‘developer tools’ to mimic versions 7 and 8, as well. In all versions, the iFrame loaded properly for me. It looks like you may need to change your settings in Internet Explorer in order to make this load; depending on your security settings, iFrames may not load automatically in IE. To change these settings, head to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom level.

I hope this helps – please let us know if you have any other questions!

  5. I have added my library's School Loop page to a box. My problem is that when I sign in to my School Loop account the page goes live to my account.

    Any suggestions?

  6. Hi Allison and All,
If the page you are inserting into the iFrame is set to refresh automatically (which is what I think Allison is describing) there is not much we can do. The webpage's owner would have to set the page to not refresh.
I hope this explain things a bit.

  7. Hi,
With your code above, which I used successfully, how do I turn off 'auto play'? I added:
autoplay="false" after the width and height part but it didn't work.
    Suggestions appreciated.
