Q

When I click a subject link in a librarian's profile I often get no results. How can I make sure the subject search works?

I know there are guides with those subjects assigned. How can I "turn on" the subject search, or make sure that it works?

Answer

The subject search is "turned on" by default. All you need to do to make it work is add subjects to your profile and make sure there are guides associated with each subject in your system so you'll get results.

The subject specialties in librarian profiles are not subject categories – that space is a free text field.

However, this text field has two “tricks”:

  1. If this free text matches a subject category (as set up in your admin settings) then it will take you to the page for that subject category.
  2. If not, then it will do a search for the term entered there.

  1. Is it possible to turn off subject search, just on librarian profiles OR alternatively have it search tags instead of subjects?

I have initially set up Subjects as our Colleges and am using tags for departments within some Colleges.

  2. We cannot turn off subject search on librarian profiles.

What you can do is use the same words for the subjects as the tags
