Guide FAQ - Your LibGuides v1 Questions. Answered!

Is it possible to use LibGuides as a Library's intranet (not publicly viewable)?

We like LibGuides and need an intranet solution that people don't hate. Is anyone currently using LibGuides in this way?

Yes, it is. :)

We have several clients who requested that they be removed from the Community list and that their pages not be indexed by our search or search engines in general because their sites were only going to be used internally. We were easily able to accommodate that.

If you have some content you'd like widely available and some you only want to use internally, you'll want to check out CampusGuides / CommunityGuides. That system is LibGuides + more! One of the features is limiting access by IP range, so you can ensure that no one outside of those IPs will see that content. You can also password protect guides. See the Springshare website to find out more.

  1. Is there not a way to use the libguides product so that some of the guides remain private while most of them are public? Without buying another product, I mean.

  2. Absolutely! You can feel free to make as many guides "Private" as you want. Private guides are inaccessible to anyone who doesn't know the URL. Only those folks you give the URL to will be able to find/view the guide. :)

This site is shutting down by, if not before, March 31, 2018.

LibGuides v1 servers are also shutting down at that time.

See LibGuides v2 documentation instead.
