Answer

The ability to email users who sign up email alerts is unique to our LibGuides CMS (formerly CampusGuides) product.

To email users who sign up for updates:Image - email update

  • Go to Guide Settings > Send an Update.
  • Click the Send an Email Alert tab.

As long as someone has signed up for email alerts for that guide, you'll be taken to a quick email form from that link to email those users.

  1. Is there a way to set up an automatic email alert that does not require manual intervention by the owner?

  2. Hi, Jane!

We actually purposely left the e-mail alert functionality as a way to provide CampusGuides users with a bit more power. You might rearrange a page or add a new box, but consider it a minor change - we wouldn't want to "bug" your users with an alert that neither you nor they think is important.

The RSS feed for a guide DOES update automatically - it is updated when a box is added to the guide. There are some services that will convert RSS feeds to e-mail (Google's Feedburner is one example), so that is an option you might want to investigate, as well.

Thanks for the great question, Jane!
