How do I copy a box?

You can copy a box from any of your own guides, as well as from guides created by others who have accounts in your LibGuides system. (Note: there's one exception to this rule. If your colleague has restricted copying on his or her guide, then you will not be able to copy a box from that guide.)

To copy a box into your guide, click Add New Box. In the popup window that appears > Reuse Existing Box from the system.

From here select the guide > then box from the drop down menus. At the bottom, select the checkbox that says, "Make a copy of this box rather than mapping to the original."

Keep in mind, boxes that you copy don't automatically update if/when new content is added to one of the boxes.

If you prefer, you can streamline the updating process by linking to a box in the system - this will automatically change/update all linked boxes when changes are made to the original. Simply leave this box unchecked.

  1. Could you add a way to reuse a box by just entering the Box ID number rather than having to scroll down to find the guide and then scroll down to find the name of the box?
It would be so much easier when adding the same box to several guides if there were a way to just pop in the ID number.

  2. Hi Marsha,
That is not only a reasonable request, but a great idea! We've added it to our list of proposed enhancements with your name and contact info, so that we can notify you when we're able to implement it.

  3. Is that box id enhancement added yet?

  4. Is there any update for the suggestion Marsha posed here? I'm still not seeing that as an option and it would be SO appreciated!

  5. Hi, Steve and Erika,
This hasn't been implemented yet, but I'll add your names to our tracking system. You'll get an email when we DO work it in. :)
