Guide FAQ - Your LibGuides v1 Questions. Answered!

Why don't my subject categories on my LibGuides homepage show up?

When I click my LibGuides Home link, my Browse by Subject column states "No subject categories have been defined". Previously, I went into MyAdmin, System Settings, and then entered several Subject Settings. However, when I click on my Libguide Home link, no subject categories or indication of guides appear.

Though you've set up your subject categories in your System Settings properly, the reason they're not showing up on your LibGuides Homepage is that there aren't any published guides associated with those subjects yet.

Once you have published guides associated with those subjects, they will start appearing in the list on your homepage.

  • Unpublished guides will not show up on your home page in any list, nor will they appear in any search. This allows authors to continue on a guide-in-process without fear that the public will be able to see/access it until it is completed.
  • Once you publish a guide, it can take up to 24 hours to see it appear in your subject list due to the fact that indexing of sites occurs on a nightly basis, not immediately.
  • If this is the first published guide to be associated with a subject, it can take up to 24 hours to appear on your homepage, again due to the nightly indexing of sites.

Please see the link below for more information on how to associate your guide with a subject and how to publish your guide.

  1. The question "I just associated my guide with a subject. Why isn't it showing up in the subject list?" is exactly what I need to know, but when I click it I get a 404 error. :(

  2. Hi Genevieve,

Are you getting the error even after the guide has been published?
