You can either edit the box title and copy/paste the link, or you can build the link yourself.

Copy/Paste the Link:

  1. Screen shot of edit box menu.Log in to LibGuides and browse to the page that contains the target box.
  2. Click the edit link in the top right corner of the box, in the title section.
  3. Choose Change Box Title/Type from the menu.
  4. When the Edit Box Info screen appears, click on Box Link & Embed Code.
  5. Copy the first URL.
  6. Paste the URL for that box wherever you want.

Build the Link Yourself:

  1. Login to LibGuides and browse to the page that contains the target box.
  2. Scroll down to the target box and place your mouse over the "edit" link for the box.
This will open a small tooltip that contains the ID number of the box you are looking at; here is an example for box ID #26, with the tooltip circled in red.
Since there is so much content in LibGuides, chances are your box ID will be much larger than our example, so grab a pen and write down the ID number displayed in the tooltip.

  3. Now all you need to do is add a "#" symbol and the box ID to the end of the public URL for your page.
In the example that I have listed here, I would take the public guide URL - - and add a "#" symbol followed by the box ID number "26", which results in the following URL:

  1. what happens if the box is in an unpublished guide? (master template)

  2. Having the same issue as Sue and wondering if there's a way to incorporate this with an unpublished guide? Thanks!

  3. Hi David-
You can't link to a box in an unpublished guide, as all of the content in that guide is unpublished. You can make the guide private and then the box link will work.
    Hope that helps.

  4. I've published the guide as private, but the link goes to the guide not the specific box I want to link to. What am I forgetting?

  5. Hi, Gretchen!
I'm going to email you to ask, just in case you don't see this reply. :) If you email us the link, we're happy to take a look.

  6. I have a private guide with pages that are hidden from the public. When I create a link to a box on a hidden page, I get the following message: "The owner of this page has taken it temporarily offline - please use the tabs above to navigate to other pages of this guide or visit the guide homepage." Anyway around this? The info on the page needs to stay hidden as it is for internal use only. Thanks.

  7. Hi Darren,

You cannot link to a Hidden page because it is hidden. So the user would have to be an admin account holder of an editor of the guide to be able to see the hidden page.

In this case it might be best to use a BOX API to embed the box in the other location.

If the other location is a guide, you could add a box to the guide and use the "Reuse a Box" feature.

    I hope this helps,
