Why does our homepage display the list of most popular guides this year? Why not keep a running total?

If we kept a running total of guide hits for your popular guides, it's likely that your older guides would be more popular simply because they've had a longer period of time to accrue those hits.

By resetting the statistics for popular guides, your newer guides and older guides are on a more equal footing. With a running total, a guide that was popular 1 or 2 years ago might still show up as popular, even if it hasn't been viewed in months.

Resetting the popular guides each year means it's more likely that the list will display what's truly popular now.

  1. It would be nice to be able to reset "popular" on a more frequent basis, say monthly.

  2. Hi, Susan!
You're not the first to ask! I'll add your email address to our tracking system, and you will get an email should the popular guides mechanism change. :)

  3. It would be better for us to be able to set when we want it to change... for instance, I would much prefer it to change on an academic rather than calendar year.

  4. Thanks, Nan. That makes sense, too, and will be possible when the option to reset it -- on whatever date -- is implemented. I've added your name and contact info to our tracking system, too, so you can be notified. - Ken

  5. I agree with Nan's request.
An academic year re-set would make more sense for our school, too.
I look forward to future developments on this.

  6. Hi, Diane!
I added you to our tracking system; if this is implemented, we'll send you an email. Thanks for your comment!
