Can I index my guides using my Google Search Appliance?
Many libraries choose to index their 'guides with a Google Search Appliance (GSA), and we're all for it! But, with the wrong settings in place, it's fairly easy for a GSA to generate tens of thousands of requests on our servers per day, which could cause your GSA to be blocked by our firewalls in order to prevent Denial of Service-like conditions.
Here are the settings for your GSA to ensure it's not blocked by our firewalls:
- Crawl Mode
GSA supports two different crawl modes - continuous and scheduled. You must use a scheduled crawl configured to run during off-peak hours and for no more than 2-3 hours at a time. More information about GSA Crawl Mode:
- Host Load
By default the GSA opens 4 concurrent connections to a sever to speed up crawling, but when this happens from multiple GSA devices simultaneously it could create a denial of service condition on LibGuides servers. To prevent this, decrease the # of concurrent connections from 4 to 1. More information about GSA Host Load:
